The word loses all meaning amongst the online public, making discussing your experiences as a neurodivergent person with neurotypicals more difficult than it otherwise would be, + sometimes making it more difficult to figure out whether someone you’re talking to has the same disability as you or if they’re just parroting “internet slang.”

I was in my bed scrolling through twitter and all I had on my page was videos and pictures from Tara's party. Which Chris and Nick attended while me and Matt had a little gateway trip for our anniversary. They called him on FaceTime and that ended up in Tara's vlog. Everyone thinks it was hilarious including me. I also loved all of the memes with Matt going to bed while the party was happening.

When we came back boys told us about everyone and that they really had fun. I was really happy about that because they usually don't really go out that much. Especially not to parties.

I stopped scrolling when I felt arms around my body.

"Good morning" I heard Matt's raspy, morning voice.

I smiled when I felt little kisses on the back of my neck sending shivers down my body.

"Morning..." I said and turned around to face him.

I smiled when he opened his eyes.

"I am surprised it's like 9 and you're up" I laughed and fixed his hair from his eyes.

"Well...I have things to do" He said and smiled.

"Like what?" I raised my eyebrow.

"Like...you" He pulled me to himself even more and I was about to kiss him when I heard loud knocks on the door.

"Are you guys up? And dressed? Can I come in?" Chris said from the other side of the door and I looked at Matt and kissed his cheek and moved away a little.

"Yes... come in" I said and Matt growled and covered his head with a pillow.

Chris came into the room and looked at us.

"I have news!" He sat on the bed next to Matt.

"Me too, I actually hate you both right now" Matt said and threw the pillow from his face at Chris.

I rolled my eyes and sat up. I put my hair into the bun and looked at Chris.

"What is it?" I asked.

"Tara invited us for dinner to celebrate 1 mil, she wants us to meet Johnnie. Jake, Larray, Sam and Colby are going to be there too. Nick also said that they can come over here after dinner and we could hang out. y/n you will finally meet Tara!" Chris said.

I looked at him. Pure panic in my eyes. I need to clean up this place.

"Well... Then I should start to clean already" I said. That was kinda my thing. Cleaning when I am stressing out.

I spent half of my day cleaning the house, even if it was already pretty clean. Boys helped me a little, mostly Matt. Chris said he is going to clean his own room. Do I believe him? No.

"So should I like match the energy and go all black?" I asked Matt going through my clothes. I already did my make up and was standing in my underwear trying to find something I like.

"I already told you, wear whatever feels like good for you" He said looking at his PC.

"I hate men" I said dramatically and texted Nick to come downstairs.

He walked into the room and looked at me.

"Wow... I bet the other triplet does not get this view. All because I'm gay, how lucky..." He said sarcastically.

"I get more than that..." Matt blinked at him with a smirk on his face.

"Shut the fuck up, my room is above you, I fucking know" He said.

"What do I wear? Help me…He is useless" I looked at Nick pointing at Matt.

"Can't you wear that dress you bought last time we went thrift shopping? And the platform docs with it" He said and went to my jewelry box.

"Those are cool, wear this too" He put a chain and some small hoops on the dresser.

"Thank you Nick" I smiled at him and started to put the outfit together.

"See learn that for the next time" I told Matt when his brother left the room.

"Just to be sure... Did Chris saw you in your underwear?" He asked and I laughed. Can't believe he was still thinking about it.

"Probably? I don't know, who cares...Matt maybe I am just going to stay home" I said and sat on the bed.

"You literally need to stop overthinking that. You know that I also am not a fan of big groups but this people are really cool and chill. It's gonna be okay" He looked at me and smile.

"You look beautiful as always and everyone is going to love you" He stood up from his chair and came up to me.

He put both of his hands on my cheeks and gave me a quick kiss. I smiled and wrinkled my nose.

"Alright..alright.. you will ruin my make up Matthew" I took his hands of my face giving him one more quick kiss.

The dinner went great. They all were really nice. Me and Matt were the only couple there so sometimes they made little jokes about it. I felt very welcome even if I wasn't part of their world. I tried to stay out from the cameras usually. But I didn't want to be rude so when they were filming stories I was on it. I was kinda stressing about people talking shit about me.

When we came to our house and at first we talked and played games together. Then we decided to go to topgolf but before that they wanted to film some TikToks.

"You and Matt are literally a goal couple. He is just so sweet checking on you all the time. Look at him he is scared I'm going to eat you" Tara said to me and I laughed.

"Yes.. he is the best" I looked at Matt with a big smile.

"Do you wanna film TikTok with me? I love your outfit so much" She asked me and i said "fuck it if tara yummy asks you to make a TikTok with her you make a TikTok with her" in my head.

"Okay...I usually only post for my friends but if you want I'm in" I smiled.

We decided to use "Tara Yummy is a mindset" audio since we kinda match with our outfits. She was a real sweetheart and such a funny person. They all were.

"I am really glad you are having fun tonight" Matt said while we were driving to top golf. He put his hand on my knee and smiled.

"It's really fun I'm glad we are doing this. And that you guys are meeting more people" I said and looked at the back at his brothers.

"Girl your and Taras TikTok is so viral" Nick showed me and my eyes went big for the numbers.

"Fuck... that's crazy" I said and Chris laughed.

"Told you that you should start to film as well" He said.

"No thank you..I just couldn't say no to Tara" I laughed.

Topgolf was souper fun. I won with Matt for the first time since forever so I was so happy. Everyone had so much fun and we filmed a lot. Boys were teaching Tara how to play and she looked so cute with the club because she is just so small.

"Matt is sad because his girlfriend is better than him" Jake said while we were on our way to the cars.

"Poor Matty" Chris made a sad face.

I laughed at them and looked at Matt. He just shook his head.

"Well...he is a winner anyways, he has the hottest girl in town, I dare you to show her to the world Matt" Tara said and I blushed.

"Are you flirting with me?" I looked at her and she laughed.

Technically that would just be Classic Mega Man, so we'll go with him!

And I will tell you my:

First impression I know who Mega Man was and that there were different ones (I just wasn't sure how or if they were necessarily connected at first, so I drew him and Hub interchangeably but confusedly). I think Rock is cute, but his design was too simple for my tastes.

Something about Smash's additional details clicked so well to me. (MM11 is still not quite there for some reason, so I don't use it.)

Impression now I've always had an interest in robot characters, and after learning more about him, I was somehow able to explore so much with that concept and just Mega Man's character in general. Unsurprisingly, working with him reminded me a lot of Astro Boy and the situations he faces with the innocent mindset of a child and the body of a robot, just not as heavy (I won't talk about the Archie Comics, I stopped following after a while for reasons).

The thing about working with child characters is that they aren't always going to act like older characters, in their words and their emotional responses. On top of that, drawing them is particular too-- their faces, the things they do with their hands, etc.

It leaves a lot to think about, but the thoughts are very welcomed. Kinda like a "put yourself in their shoes" sorta exercise.

So besides the fact that I grew to really love the Mega Man series, with its fun characters and robot designs, I really appreciate the "pureness" of Rock's character. I know he's also a hero with a strong sense of justice, but in the end he's also just a child. A robot child.

Even when compared to the other Mega Mans, Rock is the simplest, purest form of the non-human. His "humanness", while present, differs from X and his complexities despite them both being totally mechanical. Hence why I chose that word "pure".

Though Rock may appear simple, it turns out it's with much meaning. At least to me it does. I have no idea if these words make sense.

Favorite moment This is a Smash thing, but watching the lights of Mega Man's eyes during his fighter reveal is always gonna be so cool.

Idea for a story I made two (ancient) comics that touch on the uncomfortable dynamic between Rock and Dark Pit. I never really clarified it, because I'm still not sure, but Dark Pit's harsh attitude toward Rock were meant to cover for something else.

It's been so long, I don't know if I'll ever return to it. But there's definitely a lot of loose ends I've still left flying around. (Y'know... Like the one with Beck.)

Unpopular opinion I don't really like Rock's MM7/MM8-type proportions. He looks way too tall and way too lanky.

Dionysus' iceberg

This post is what remains of an initially very long rant idea. That means there will probably be a part 2 😏.

Here's the reason for my title :

In theory, you can stop there since my meme pretty much summarizes my complaints. But since I like ranting, I'll continue 😈

The tip of the iceberg

When you think "Dionysus", which words come in mind first ?

Probably "wine", "party", "alcohol" "fun god".

These words are what most people remember about Dionysus. And yes, I'm not going to deny, they fit.

Unfortunately, my problem comes with the fact that 9.5 times out of 10, Dionysus' personality will exclusively revolve around these aspects.

Since the issue is about modern adaptations and perceptions, I'll use a modern term.

I'm sure most of you are familiar with flanderization, right ? If not, the link to TV Tropes' article on the subject is available.

Many adaptations fell into that trap for, I think, every single Olympian.

Hades, god of the dead, lord of the Underworld = Satan, evil death god, darkness and sorrow

Aphrodite, goddess of love and beauty = Superficial bimbo who only cares about her pretty face

Zeus, king of the gods, lord of the sky and thunder = 100% pure God OR more recently : evil king god who constantly abuses women.

The gods are stripped of their complexity to fit simpler and more "digestible" characterizations. It doesn't help that the cultural context surrounding them is also taken away...

But this is about grape boi, right? Well, Dionysus is no exception to that rule. In fact, he might be one of the worst cases.

So far, he was never really portrayed in an "insulting" light, like Apollo in Lore Olympus or Hades in the Percy Jackson movie. Fortunately.

But, from all the popular adaptations I've seen, none of them manage to portray Dionysus ! None ! Does that make them automatically bad ? No, of course. It's just something I noticed.

God of war ? Doesn't appear, only mentioned

Disney ? Don't even try 🤣. Just a drunk goofball. Yes, that includes the fantasia segment and Hercules.

Lore Olympus? Well, he's a baby for 99.99999% of the time, so it doesn't count. But he's still a quiet little Gucci bag for Persephone.

Hades I ? Just a nice guy. But hey ! He can give us useful boons ! And I like his sass.

Maybe he'll do more in Hades II. They're usually more accurate than most, right ? Though that's not a very high bar. And they know about Zagreus ! Surely that's a good sign, right ?

Nevermind...

Here's what all these adaptations tell us :

Dionysus is the god of wine, feasts and parties

He's an Olympian

He likes to get drunk and party 🥳

And that's it.

Again, I'm not blaming anyone, but if the myths stopped with those three points, wouldn't everyone wonder why he's even an Olympian ? I sure did when I was a kid.

We have the god of thunder, the goddess of wisdom and war strategy, god of music/arts/medicine/100 other things, the god of the oceans ! Many cool gods !

And some drunk dude. He's not given any particular power, except the power to stay super passive no matter the stakes ! If the story revolves about epic godly fights (which is often the case), he's absolutely useless.

Heck, Hades II even actively depicts him as a pacifist who can't handle war. While he's not physically a weakling, he sure psychologically is.

Why is this a problem ?

I am not going to beat around the bush: this gives us a very incomplete and incorrect perception of the god.

Even the things that aren't forgotten about him (like his link to wine) aren't explored.

The thing with Hades II (that's the last time I'll mention it) is that it tries to deepen the flanderized version of Dionysus. He's not stupid, but afraid. He drinks to forget his issues.

While this characterization can be very interesting taken separately, we must remember that this isn't an OC, but an interpretation of a cultural figure.

It must be accurate ! While I can accept some liberties, I think that those should mostly be an extension of the original material, not a total deviation.

Dionysus isn't a scared little boi or a stupid drunkard you can manipulate. In fact, that's quite the opposite. And he's not afraid to get his hands dirty.

(even if the "dirt" in question is the blood of his enemies).

OKAY, hear me out before reading the text below: this blog of mine is just a place, where I can see my progress in many of things, and writing in english is one of them. the deal is - english is not my native language, and my way of writing can look very bad.

if you decide to read my little sketch, firstly - good luck; and secondly, if when you see some dumb mistakes - feel free to comment because learning stuff is fun!

(also I'm like probably need to do a disclaimer or something like this, but I don't know how :D)

well, it's just fluff (?), without any triggers and just something that was in my head for a while. also I'm using the real names on the dream team in this text. actually, all my thoughts slowly became a whole au (this is the right word for it, right?), so if I will be really confident, maybe I write something else....

UGH this is again a super long text, I'M SORRY.

imagine that you've been friends with «dream team» for an almost a three years.

originally you were an employee on a mr. beast team, something that others would call an errand boy (well, errand girl in your case). but despite your small position in a whole team, everyone was simply in love with you. you just were a little shining star, that everybody adored. and beside that, you knew how to do your job. and by one of these hard-working days, you've meet sapnap.

there were a small pause between shooting for a new challenge video, where nick was one of the judges, and it happend that you both had a chance to chat for a little bit. you two find in each other someone nice, almost like a soulmate. when you too start to speak about different topics, including hobbies and favorite things, something just clicked. after a shooting, y'all just spontaneously decided to go for a walk. you both just can't stop talking, and after a hour or so, you find yourself on a basketball court. the day slowly becoming an evening, there only a few people around, and you two with beer cans just lazily playing basketball.

and after that day your life just start change entirely.

after sapnap you've met sunshine with name karl, and then dream, george, even quackity. the boys was also amazed with your warm personality and you all pretty fast become great buddies. you start to show in theirs instagram photos, twitter posts, stories. you've slowly become an important member of their group. staying for a movie night, cook for them, give a ride on your car, making birthday presents, spending time in video games, and eventually joining the streams.

to be honest, chat was kinda aggressive by the first time and full of comments like "omg why are they even let this girl to join, she's just ruining all the fun" and bunch of other not-so-nice words. guys were super sorry that you have to deal with all this hate, but you honestly won't making a big deal out of that. you just continue to show up from time to time, and slowly but surely people realize that your "boring" side was actually a "super caring" side.

and only after this realization everybody understand how cool actually your character resonates with sometimes childish characters of the rest of the group. the memes start to full the internet, boys start jokingly addresses to you like "sweet mother of ours", and you were very audible and visible cringing at the name, but they're just unstoppable.

and after a two and a half years of your friendship, after george finally gets a visa and clay does a face reveal, four of you guys finally moved together.

and that simply become a golden era of your friendship.

you spend mornings with george, when you get ready for work and this man with no sleep schedule gives you company. at the moment that you start making a breakfast, this man just magically appears with his cute puppy eyes, and after the few times when your plate was getting empty for about a fifteen seconds, you just start to cook for you two. imagine: dark room with only one working lamp, you both eating some puffy pancakes, drinking something warm, chatting and silently giggling. it's a little foggy outside, and almost absolute silence. sounds really comforting, does it not? after you finished eating, you give george a small kiss on his head, maybe mess up with his hair and beg him to get some rest.

the days fly by really fast, when you making stuff with dream. join the stream for a moment? sure. what about the new idea for the video/song? tell me everything. maybe you want to go to the shopping together? get in my car, clay. you freely can go to his room when silence in your head gets too loud. often you just knock on his room door shyly, and ask if you can sit on the bed while dealing with work. and he never refuse. also you absolutely love to draw him in the moments when he really focused on something, maybe make him a few more knitted hats or something cute, but stupid. and he absolutely melts at every single touch. you just need to tell him that everything is okay, and he always can find a support in his friends. and he's so thankful for this.

and finally, you want the evenings to never end because you spend them with sapnap. he don't want to show it, but you just see it anyways - he cares about you. of course, that doesn't mean that other guys don't care, but sapnap do it in his own way and you really appreciate it. almost every evening he casually walks into your room, and if he sees how tired you look because of the work, all his appearance softens immediately. with his silent, raspy voice he asks how do you feel. and if your answer not satisfying enough, nick just casually says that he's going to wait you in the car. and that means - this evening going to be awesome. you both have no clue what are you going to do tonight, but that's just more fun, right? basketball court, just like in the old times? eating junk food in the car, while chatting and shouting the songs? skateboarding park, when nick trying to impress you, but just stupidly falls and now you need to bandage all his wounds, while you just can't stop from laughing? (he's trying to act offended, but inside he's all fluff, believe me).

but sometimes you decide to hang out in the house. sapnap picks up some random film, brings more pillows and blankets, you cook (or order) snaks, and you both just simply chilling together after a long day. and I don't need to tell that almost every time the rest of the group decide to join. maybe it's even spontaneously become a movie night? who knows. you can't even blink, and it's 3am already, the third movie silently playing on the back, all the boys sleeping and barely audibly snore. and only you stubbornly want to wait until the credits. and the movie finally ends, you trying to clean up a little, while you judge the main character in your mind. when you come back to the sleeping kingdom, you can't help but smile at the view of three big men just calmly sleeping, and unconsciously trying to hug something. you definitely take a few photos, and when you want to go to your room, suddenly dream wakes up and mid-sleep reach up to you, whispering that he want to cuddle. your heart was not ready for this, and you just can't say "no" to him.

and when you slowly falling into sleep, while warm big hands carefully hugs you, you just think to yourself - oh, how extremely lucky you are.

well, maybe you can skip the next day at work.

...you can't miss how nick and george all morning going to scream that they're absolutely-for a hundred percent-for sure-definitely didn't hug each other all night.

For the 'struggling writer thing'

Currently having a mini crisis about my MC and faer writing style, it's quite... purple prose poetic but there's a REASON for faer writing style to be like that, plus the other character's POVs are a lot more simple.

I guess what I'm trying to say is... how to make purple prose more understandable while it's still purple prose? My current plan is to separate the longer scenes into 'snippets' with titles so they are more digestible, but any help would be much appreciated!

By the way you crafted this ask it sounds to me like someone somewhere made you think that purple prose is inherently bad and acts as some kind or moral failure on your behalf. At the same time, it seems like you have a perfectly justifiable reason for your character to talk the way fae does.

Purple prose is often derided, in my experience, when it is used to draw attention to how Writerly the Writer is. Oh, look at ME! Look at all the BIG WORDS I know! Have you considered ALL THE BOOKS THAT I HAVE EATEN! YUMMY YUMMY KNOWLEDGE!

That sucks. You don't want to be the writer who writes so people know how smart they are. That's weird.

On the other hand, sometimes you make a Little Guy who just talks in a certain way. And if you want to respect that and showcase it, you should. So fae talks like a fancy weirdo? Cool! If that's genuinely their vibe then that's faer's vibe, and maybe you don't have to go that extra mile to make it "digestible".

People read James Joyce for fun. Not everyone needs easily digestible literature. There is absolutely a justification for a character talking like an ornate time machine stowaway if that's what you feel is the best depiction of who they are and you don't got to do a goddamned thing to make them sound more normal.

The only thing I would say is that if the other POVs are in a more conventional tone, then fae's perspective will really stand out. But if they're a dryad that uses neopronouns and speaks in poetry - that tracks for me. That makes sense that they're not speaking in TikTok memes and talking about the nearest place to find vape juice.

Let fae be the most indulgent Little Fancy Man (gender neutral) that fae wants to be, especially for a first draft. There was no good explanation for how Steve Harrington standing outside Eddie Munson's trailer at 3 in the morning.

One second he was standing in Tina's bathroom being told that his entire year-long relationship was bullshit, and the next he was standing in the middle of the town's trailer park with absolutely no memory of the walk over there. Normally Munson would have been at the party, but after a few cursory glimpses around the house he found the dealer was oddly missing.

It was cold. Steve's arms were littered with goosebumps under his jacket and his legs hadn't stopped shivering, proving how long he'd been standing there. Just knock.

The door swung open before he could, nearly rapping Steve's knuckles as he lifted them to knock. Eddie Munson stood there—hair disheveled and brown eyes looking tired, though slowly awakening as he realized who was standing there.

"Were you gonna stand on my front step all night, Harrington?" Eddie asked, already beginning to feign coolness by leaning against the door frame and crossing his arms. "Tryin' to see how the other half live?"

"I..." Steve started, opening and closing his mouth in an attempt to find the right words. "I need to buy."

"I'm not selling tonight, big boy."

"I need it," Steve punctuated. Idly, he wondered what his dad would think of him begging on Munson's doorstep like this. It's a good thing his parents are in Chicago again. "I just, please."

Eddie must have seen something in his face, because suddenly he was swiping a hand over his own face and moving back from the doorway. "What d'you want then, Harrington?"

Steve had no idea. He didn't do this shit. Sometimes he'd smoke with Tommy, but he never bought it. This was so far out of his element he couldn't help but stand awkwardly in the Munson trailer, arms wrapping around his middle like that might spare him from thinking about what he was doing. This was the only thing he could think of, though, that might ease the sharp sting in his chest. It felt like something had been ripped out of him, all the wire-like nerves frayed and shocking inside of the empty chest cavity.

"Whatever's strongest," Steve said.

Eddie raised one eyebrow, considering him for a moment before sighing and asking, "What's happening here?"

"Nothing. I want...drugs. Yeah, drugs."

"Drugs, yeah, okay, Harrington," Eddie breathed in shock, shaking his head. "What sent straight-laced, golden boy Steve Harrington to drugs?"

"None of your business, Munson," Steve instinctively snapped. They may be in the same graduating class now, but that didn't mean they got along. Steve can't remember the last time they ever spoke kindly to one another, if they even had. It was the simple fact that Steve was a jock and Eddie was decidedly not that had split them apart before they'd ever had a chance to see if they fit.

Steve had to wonder if that even held up anymore, considering how little he seemed to actually know about the world. He was so different from who he'd been even just a year ago, maybe Munson wasn't all so bad.

So he sighed, ran his fingers through his hair like it might reset the situation, then said, "Nancy broke up with me."

Eddie just looked at him, a little smile he was fighting back against on his face. "You're....Let me get this straight. Steve Harrington is turning to hard drugs to get over a little breakup?"

"It wasn't little," Steve snapped immediately, crossing his arms over his chest and looking off to the side so he didn't have to face Eddie. "Is that a yes or no, man?"

"...Sure. Sure, man." Eddie left to grab some box, walked him through the whole process. "You mind staying here while you use? I don't wanna get blamed when you do something stupid."

That was how he ended up sitting on Eddie Munson's couch, Eddie offering him some pill while he took his own. The effects set in fairly quickly, numbing his senses and, most importantly, dulling the sharp stabbing ache in his chest. It wasn't the best feeling in the world—it left Steve with the lingering feeling that he wouldn't be able to defend himself if another demogorgon decided to make its brutal appearance—but it was preferrable to the raw ache of the breakup.

"...she told me it was all bullshit. I should've seen it coming, she's been in loved with Byers all year."

"Jonathan Byers? That's harsh, man," Eddie hissed, "What're you gonna do?"

It was easier talking like this. The music Eddie was playing hurt Steve's throbbing head a little, but he could appreciate the beat of it. He mostly liked hearing Eddie's voice and the way it reverberated around his head. The guy could a little harsh with his jokes, but they'd talked more than Steve had talked to too many others all year.

"No idea," Steve confessed, turning his head on the couch to face Eddie. "I'll be the laughingstock of the school tomorrow, when she shows up with Byers and I show up alone. There'll be no saving it."

"I mean..." Eddie trailed off, raising his eyebrows pointedly like Steve was supposed to catch on. "If your only problem is that you can't be the single one tomorrow, we could fix that."

"Yeah? How'd you propose we do that, Munson?"

"I'll be your boyfriend for as long as you need me, no problem," Eddie offered, "if you keep the basketball team off my ass for the rest of the year."

It was crazy. Steve knew it was a bad idea, and yet all he could think to do was nod his head. It would solve his problem, and honestly he still had enough pull with the team as captain to make it work. And hey, if Eddie wasn't so bad tonight then he couldn't be the worst fake boyfriend, right? And it would at least keep the rumor mill off his back, and would save him the dignity of walking into the school with clear evidence that he hadn't been enough for Nancy.

"You know what, deal. Be my boyfriend, Eddie Munson."

ohhh for the writing ask meme how about 11, 20, and 28?

oooh, thank you for the ask!! ok, so: 11. Three tropes that are fine but overrated. honestly, I love a lot of tropes (lol @ myself, earlier, looking through a list of tropes and desperately scrolling to find one I don't love - like literally give me a soulmark au anyday), but the ones that aren't my favorites are: 1. Regency/Royalty AUs - I love, love period dramas, but often I feel like when fics are written with this trope, the characters feel totally off for me. There's not a lot in the royai fandom, but definitely in some other ones I've been in. 2. Virgin!fics - I just don't consider it to be all that accurate (for royai, anyway - it could definitely work more for other fandoms/pairings, depending). Like, even for Riza, I really don't think her back tattoo prevented her from having sex at least once (excluding/before Roy) - in my opinion, anyway! I find general inexperience is more fun to play with then straight up virgin fics. 3. major character death - I will usually avoid reading something involving this, because it usually makes me big sad. :( not that it can't be well done, butttt yeah haha. I love some good angst, but I don't enjoy when it's too angsty. also for royai, I'm like... at least let them have some happiness, jeez?

but honestly, any trope can be cool and interesting depending on how the writer does it! and, like, whatever floats your boat, ya know? 20. Do you work on a single project or many at the same time? How does that work for you? okay, so this depends on my mood, and current wip hyperfixation, but generally I do enjoy working on multiple at once. it's nice to be able to switch between projects when you get stuck... but sometimes it's also nice to focus on one thing.

28. Any writing advice that works for you and you feel like sharing?

so writing advice can be very... self-specific, if that makes sense? i find a lot of writing advice out there that's supposed to be geared towards anyone sometimes doesn't always work for everyone. but! a few things that I find helpful for myself are: 1. don't believe the voice in your head telling you that your writing is awful - that is the devil talking, lol. let it sit for a bit, and come back, and I promise that it'll be better when you're reading it using a different mindset. it's happened to me so many times where I'm like "this is fucking awful why did I ever write this" and then I reread it a few days/weeks/months later and I'm like "wait, this is actually good??" it just needs to simmer for a bit. 2. as stated earlier, let your writing sit for a bit, especially while editing, or trying to figure out transitions or plot holes. I'll get really frustrated with an issue sometimes, and believe it's impossible to fix - but mostly that's just me hitting a wall. if I let it sit for a while, and stop reading my own words for a bit (i basically get sick of my own writing lol), then suddenly a lot of the problems are a lot easier to solve. 3. keep a list of words/phrasing that you like - then you have a reference to look at when you're struggling with word choice. super helpful, as I often get stuck with descriptions, and then I have a nice little list to use as reference. 4. skip over stuff that you're struggling with in the initial writing process - can't think of a name? add it later! not sure how to describe something? skip it and come back! don't like your word choice? fix it later! basically don't fixate on small details, as it can always be added in later. this is why I always have to tell myself that editing is not as bad as I blow it up to be in my head, because honestly the best parts of my writing usually happen during the editing process.

Anyways!!!! Hello fellow gay people in my computer with an unhealthy obsession with bones, I wanna talk memes. Specifically, the whole concept of how Muir uses memes in the Locked Tomb series and how they go a lot deeper than you think they do. Spoilers for Nona the Ninth below, you have been warned.

So. Memes. On the very most basic level, the memes are there for shits and giggles. For audience appeal, recognition, whatever. People see the funny words in the funny sentence and go “oh shit I know what that is!!!!” and it makes them laugh. This is the lesbian meme series for a reason, and that’s perfectly valid. Tangentially, it will date the series as the decades pass- as our culture moves beyond the little references put in these works, we will view them less as funny and more as a pinpoint in our history; a way archive our culture in those decades. The future readers will go oh, they still found miette funny back then and move on. This happens to all literature over the years, it’s only natural.

But what if I told you there was more?

Here’s what we know about the lore for this series:

The Resurrection was 10,000 years ago

Earth was largely the same as our earth until Jod became a tree fucker necromancer and nuked everything, and then our timelines separate

Jod used the Internet (more likely a streaming service like Twitch or Youtube) to get his message out there, so he would probably be aware if not invested in meme culture around the time

Jod is the only person with memories from the before times

Jod literally had to reinvent human culture and society from the ground up

Thats a lot of memes. Like, a lot of memes, and they’re used by a variety of different characters, with Jod saying a good amount. Some of those memes are obscure enough that you’d have to be invested in internet culture to know about. But that’s the thing: it makes sense for those memes to be there. From a world building standpoint, they’re a part of casual conversation, used regularly and idiomatically. And from what we know about Jod, he was a part of internet and meme culture, so of course when he’s rebuilding language and society from the ground up, his way of speaking and use of memes is gonna slip in. After ten thousand years, things we (as the reader) and Jod (as the only person who knows what a goddamn meme is) consider “memes” are going to be part of human language and culture without classification that separates them from normal speech. It also explains certain terms used for common objects- Jod was a kiwi, so he’s gonna speak like a kiwi, and society speaks like him.

But also, there’s still more. The thing about memes is that they are online, said by someone at some time. Those memes have a pinpoint date to when they were said and went viral. And Jod can do a lot of things, but Jod cannot see the future, and Jod cannot reference things that did not happen before he nuked earth. Meaning because of the memes used in this series, we can almost very nicely pinpoint the year the Earth got nuked. And y’all fucking KNOW I did the research on this one.

The youngest meme on this list is, funnily enough, the miette reference in Harrow the Ninth. That tweet was made in March of 2019, but didn’t really go viral until later in the year, so that gives us somewhere between late 2019 and early 2020 for the world to go kaboom, since there are no mentions of Covid 19 or some sort of pandemic. But Muir could very well reference goncharov in the next book (I don’t think she will, considering the time it takes to write, edit, promote and publish books) and that would only move our timeline up by a couple years, and since it’s the last book in the series, that’s the final marking we have for the timeline. Similarly to Jod, Muir cannot reference what hasn’t happened (yet). This was probably entirely accidental on her part, but it’s still fun and super fucking cool!!!!

Anyways. I am so normal about this series, I hope you enjoyed my little dissertation on meme usage in it. I’m gonna go pass out or something.

STOP PLAYING THE TRANSPHOBIC ANTISEMITIC WIZARD GAME AND PLAY MY FAVORITE VIDEO GAMES DO IT DO IT DO IT this is because I'm biased and I do not care what the differences between them are I'm literally just here to shit on Joanne, her fans, and their disgusting views, and promote games that I personally like for video game reasons.

Portal 2 is great and people with common sense know this but it's fun gameplay wise and the environments and story are fuckin amazing. For a game from 2011, the graphics look beautiful, better than some recent games I've seen. The soundtrack is also wonderful and I am in love with "Want you gone". The storyline, while told throughout several different games (including those in the Half Life storyline but Half Life is also really good but don't take my word for it because I've never played Half Life before I am indeed a fake fucking fan) is intriguing and the characters are great. The mechanics are really neat and they let you experiment a little with how you play and it makes you use your brain and really think about how you'll utilize two portals to get you around places. You know a game is good when it really challenges your intellect, and you may get stuck sometimes, but with enough thought and dedication, you'll pull through. Also the voicelines and humor is amazing, I still find myself thinking about lines from even the turrets! Also the final boss is really good and the reveal is excellently portrayed. It genuinely sent shivers down my spine. I think this is one of those games where you should avoid spoilers as much as possible and just experience it for yourself.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is more than just funny meme game. It's got good graphics, a beautiful story, an even better soundtrack, and fun mechanics. I got an achievement for being a huge fucking dumbass and not utilizing the mechanics until my second playthrough. I went through the broken elevator level and had no idea I could use enhanced AI to get through that and went in completely blind. I didn't know that was impressive I just thought that's how the game was. I love how the soundtrack is used to tell the stories of the antagonists and help you understand them a bit more. They're cruel, ruthless, and unjust (except for Blade Wolf, he can do no wrong), but they have reasons for what they do and the music tells you this while also being A FUCKING BANGER. THE INSTRUMENTALS GO SO HARD OH MY GOD. Also they give you the ability to cut anything and everything you want (except for the cat who does backflips and avoids getting hurt) and it is so much fun. Of course the game isn't perfect and has flaws, but it's not antisemitic or transphobic. Overall a masterpiece and the ended did make me feel things. Also play the DLCs, they're really fun and flesh out two major characters and also let you do more cool shit that you can't do as Raiden.

Sonic Adventure 2 is probably my favorite game of all time currently despite how ancient it is and the flaws it has. I. Don't. Care. What's wrong with the game. I adore it. You bet your ass I'm explaining why. The graphics hold up surprisingly well even today despite the low poly count (it's higher than Metal Gear Solid 1 and Resident Evil 1 don't worry) and the character animation isn't bad by any means. The environments for each level are beautiful despite how they vary. Radical Highway is my favorite level in the entire game and it's so much fun for no reason whatsoever. Like they put their whole developussy into this one stage and I dig it. I also really like a lot of the Knuckles/Rouge stage designs, Pumpkin Hill looks very spooky (but my worst fear is falling off the hills AAH). I also like the soundtrack, it differs depending on which character it's focused on. Knuckles has more of that lofi rap thing going on, Rouge has some nice jazz going on, Shadow has that alternative "I'm cool shit" rock going on, meanwhile Sonic sounds like that type of rock where a middle schooler finishes school and now it's summertime, I don't know how to portray it in words. I also like the Chao Garden, I love all 4 of my children they are beautiful and I love them. I also like the replayability value because you may go back to certain stages not only because they're fun, but to be able to collect animals and toys for your Chao to play with. Not to mention the activities the Chao can engage in, such as karate and racing. They also let me into hot topic I am very happy. The most I'll knock it for is the security hall voice acting, it's not awful but it's not perfect. Rouge specifically, her screams don't sound realistic at all, but I can't be too harsh because it's not like I can do better.

I guess Scott Pilgrim vs The World doesn't suck either but I'm not gonna go too far in depth with it because y'know, that's really biased and there are problems I have with it but if you like Scott Pilgrim, check it out, it's actually pretty fun tbh.

even though women's goth/punk/etc. fashion can include a lot of things that are concidered hyperfeminine or can be painful or dangerous, like shaving/plucking everything from head to toe, tight boned corsets, extremely tall platform boots/spiked heels and heavy makeup etc., not to mention body bodifications, it can also be fun imo. watching a youtube tutorial on kylie jenner -style makeup with the new 80€ sephora palette and buying the same fast fashion accessories from the same sweatshops as everyone else isn't fun but trying to make yourself look as freaky as possible can be. it is pretty fun to shave your head and play with your looks and express yourself or your interests through wacky looks. and some people do that exaggerated old school movie look and it can also be really cool i think. and because alternative fashion in my opinion can have an aspect of truly having fun and expressing yourself, which religiously following trends and being stressed about looking how others want you to look rarely can, it's especially sad how women's goth/punk/alternative style is so fetishized. everything women do or are is always fetishized by men, but we all know the goth gf meme or how alternative women are sexualized and included in porn categories and they're seen as kinky nymphos or something. and because of that & in general of "alternative" fashion now being more mainstream, the pornified imagery is seen even clearer in many ways. big alternative fashion shops selling spiked collars with a tag that says "daddy's kitten" or "e-girls" wearing shirts with the word daddy or some hentai shit. and the men are obviously thrilled and spaces meant for women interested in alternative fashion are filled with porn-sick men asking for their onlyfans, harassing them, openly spelling out their sexual fantasies or trying to buy used boots to jerk off into. it's no fun anymore. i used to like the look of wearing a collar as part of a gothic look when i was a teen but then i realized how sexual it is seen by many people, especially men. i stopped wearing it because the thought of it being seen as a sexual, kinky thing instead of an edgy look was so disgusting to me. i rarely ever bought clothes that weren't second-hand but occasionally i looked what some notable alternative clothing shops had and i was weirded out by some of the stuff, like the "daddy" stuff or stuff that looked like bdsm gear. at some point i was following gothic fashion subreddits but eventually 70% of the posts were OF advertisements, and regardless of the post there were men being gross in the comments, no matter how young the poster looked. i've heard from many women that it is hard to sell your stuff online because of perverted men, or that women's fashion facebook groups are infiltrated by them and they will then go on harassing the women or masturbating to their pictures, or screenshotting and sharing them with other men. men ruin absolutely everything with their rotten touch.

Frankenstein: If you could learn any 5 languages, what would it be?

(Kinda funny question, I mean, I could. I’m just too lazy.)

Hard to decide if that includes already known ones? Also like, do I actually have to learn it, or just... get to know it? Because damn, I did have my edgy teenager wants to look at Finnish phase, but I do not want to learn it anymore, no thank you. I like my words ... shorter.

I obviously speak German and English (no shit), but I also learned Latin for 8 years, and Ancient Greek for 3.

I’d love to remember more of Latin, it’s been so long, and you just don’t use that. Like, what are you gonna do with that? I believe I used to have a copy of a certain popular wizard book in Latin. I’m not particularly interested in finding out if I still do.

I also dabbled in Dutch for a while (not really that difficult, lil bastard child of German and English it is), which is enough to get the gist of articles and memes some friends send me. It’s rather pointless, since everyone there speaks English. Also I am too fucking awkward to actually try. The “I will sit in silence for hours without saying a single word because I cannot” anxiety kind, so that’s fun.

I think Spanish would be cool, because that’s widely used.

I would also love to learn sign language. I know it’s offered at a local school, but ugh... the thought of having to leave my house in the evening when I just wanna die.
